Yes if your laptop is connected to an external battery (UPS). So if your power trips, you wouldnt loose your data etc.
Removing the battery helps in keeping it cool and maybe an increase in battery life. -
It's recommended so as not to overheat the battery.

Some people say that leaving it in the laptop will make it continously getting discharged(a few %)/charged, some people say that it won't make a difference.
