Hmm, looks like HP messed up my 2530p
I finally fired up my computer, and instead of Vista it installed XP. In the box is a Operating System CD for WinXP Professonal as well and a Application and driver recovery DVD for WinXP. That should be the right CDs and only the OS on the computer is wrong. There's a Vista sticker on it, mind.

And no spamware? I got a trialversion of Office 2007 that I need to kick off again and the installation created a tiny 1GB partition which only holds some HP tools. Convenient. And the IE contains a spambar with google search, lots of AOL and some HP stuff.

Now I feel slightly annoyed that they added a UK plug to the parcel and not a European one eventhough I will need it anyway soon and for a longer time. Or maybe that is standard when asking for a UK keyboard and English windows?

Well, lets see how good the HP customer service is in Europe.

What OS did you order? If it was the XP downgrade then thats the correct OS install for that option. If you want Vista then I believe you will have to call in and ask them to ship out the Vista DVD's.

Good question. Lets look at the order paper.

The following should have been contained in the computer/box:
DRDVD WIN XP 2530p Recover Media
Vista Business wXPP OFC Ready 2530p
OSCD Windows XP Pro 08 Media

The hardware is correct, the computer runs like a dream, there's just no Vista anywhere.

    What I got is
XP Professional SP2 on the computer
"Operating System CD - Multiple user Interface Pack for use with Microsoft Windows XP professional Service Pack 2 (or is that a Vista upgrade?) in English and several Eastern European languages & Thai"
"Application and Driver Recovery DVD - contains software and drivers already installed. For software reinstallation and repair only. For Windows XP"

Well, you ordered the XP downgrade. Thats why they shipped it out with XP along with the Vista key. The CD should be for Xp again since the order sheet mentions the OSCD as XP.

OK, then I guess there's a misunderstanding. The IT guy at my company who ordered this computer for me said they always came with Vista preinstalled and an XP downgrade on CD. If not then no problem. But lets find out what it actually all means.

Could you maybe talk me through what those 3 things mean? What does wXPP OFC Ready stand for? When I search for OFC Ready I end up at Office information. I assumed OSCD meant operation system CD.

    Cheers,
    SFG

Yeah, you got that right. It just means that the system is office ready (trial version preinstalled).

Vista Business wXPP means that you have the licence for Vista Business with a downgrade to XP Pro. XP Pro is the OS installed and you have an option to request the Vista DVD from HP or you can probably just borrow a Vista DVD from someone and activate using the license key attached to the system. I would first contact HP and ask for the Vista DVD, they should ship one out to you.

OSCD = Operating system restore CD which should be a regular XP disc. Plus you should also have a restore partition on your HDD as well. So, you have 2 ways to restore the system back to factory state.

    Cheers, miner.
Then I'll let the techie contact HP next week so they can send me a Vista disk. And until then I'll work with XP and try to get rid off the AOL stuff (even changing the start site doesn't really help) as it really annoys me. Anyway, I love this notebook :)
