Every time i now switch my lappy on, it now comes up with a box requesting i purchase a bigger brick for full performance. Surely the one out the box should be enough?...came with the slimline 90w version (travel adaptor). It has only just started to do this, has an update done this or you think my adaptor is on the way out? Anyone elses do this? I do also think things are generally slowing down, the initial blistering pace seems to have gone! Or i may just be imagining this...
    thx Minty.

I'm not too familiar with the 14, but the model number indicates it a first gen envy 14 beats with i7 processor. It's suppose to ship with a 90w power supply which should be enough to avoid the performance hit, but maybe the 90w slim adapter has degraded a little and is probably on the verge of providing barely enough power for that config which is why you get the message. A new power supply might help, but you should look into the warranty status to see if they can just replace yours.

If you have access to any other HP laptops with 90+w power supplies, you can try one of theirs to confirm.

    Good luck!

P.S. Your machine will slow down a little bit because of the lack of power, but you should also make sure your sluggishness isn't due to a virus or other software sapping your memory and cpu.

Strange. I had the warning when I first plugged in the slim, but I think I was able to disable the notification and it charges just fine. I have both and I haven't had any trouble with it. Envy 14 first gen here.
