i just bought a fatal1ty headset and now im experiencing some minor problems with my sound. obviously the soundcard makes them since i installed the newest software and drivers for the headset.
until now i was using the driver i got from my notebook's download page by HP, version 5.10.1.5220 from 05.02.2008.
now i looked through the net and found quite a lot of these soundmax drivers, but im not sure which one to take..
i learned that the 6.### drivers are for vista, and the 5.10.02.### drivers are for xp x64. so i need a 5.10.1.#### one, preferably newer than 5220. now on the page i found them ( www.versiontracker.com), there are quite a lot of these drivers (218 to be exact) and sorting them by the release date confuses me a bit, since the newest 5.10.1.#### driver is 5.10.1.5860, but a bit earlier 5.10.1.6110 was released. so which is the newest one?
and all are from 2008.. are there really no newer ones? on the official soundmax page there are none, even no support section.
the device id is HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_11D4&DEV_1981&SUBSYS_103C30C5& REV_1002\4&1D8C0F4E&0&0001, since one cannot identify the exact device from the name.
anyone any idea?
thanks
EDIT:
HPC_5860_1_XP_32_REF says unsupported hardware..
EDIT #2:
used the experience from modding drivers for ati mobility gpus and copied the devices from hp's softpak for installing my soundmax driver into the inf file of that 5860 driver above, installed it through the device manager and it seems to work. lets see how well..
EDIT #3:
a look at the device manager now makes me look stupid.. the version of my driver is now 5.10.1.5180, which is the older one offered on hp's page, although i installed the 5.10.1.5860 modded inf file.
any ideas?

How about if you use the generic HD audio driver? (remove the driver and let windows install it's own)
Also, what version of Windows are running, and what issues are you experiencing? -
win xp pro sp3 32bit
it works well, the 5220 version worked well, too, but i experienced some performance drops while gaming and using the headset which i didnt experience before and can only track back to the soundcard.
here is the thread i posted at the creative forums about the performance issues, but nobody answered yet:

i think youre right.. i forgot about thinking about that. right now im not at home, but ill take a look when back. i have 4 usb slots, 2 on the left, 2 on the right side. and i have both, the mouse and the headset plugged in on the left side to have space for the mousepad on the right side. maybe its really the same hub.. then my last assumption in the post at creative forums seems to be right, 500hz polling stresses the cpu too much when the headset is plugged in.
thanks, ill report back when at home and having checked that.
EDIT:
but still, do you know how to get the most recent soundmax drivers to work and where to get them from? -
-
thanks, ill try them out. obviously all the notebook drivers are branded by the notebook manufacturers and therefore they dont work on other notebooks. if i could remove the reference to the manufacturer im quite sure it would work. just like those hp drivers for ati mobility gpus inside hp notebooks. but i suppose its a bit more complicated than modding official ati drivers to work for mobility gpus..

now i found a page that seems to offer modified soundmax drivers to work with my device (1981), but since i would have to pay for that and on each page there are testimonials by "users" telling about having solved all problems using drivers from that page im not quite sure how serious this is..
http://download.driverguide.com/driver/1981/Analog+Devices/d1407880.html
unfortunately, googling "SoundMax_1981_5.10.5870.rar" only brings me back to that page, so i suppose this download doesnt really exist but is just meant to bait people to pay for that site.. -
DriverGuide is a legit site, unfortunately they have some pretty restrictive download policies.
I used to have an account with them a couple years ago (back then it was still partially free), i'll try and download it for you. Edit: I got it. Download here. -
WOW thanks very much!
ill report back when having tried to install it.
thank you
EDIT:
it installed perfectly!
you both earned some rep. namaiki for reminding me of the usb hub containing two slots, and you for providing me with that driver.
thanks again -
@namaiki
i looked at the hubs - each slot has its own hub, so the headset doesnt run on 500hz polling. but i think installing the new drivers and tweaking a bit in the sound options now solved it, i dont experience the lag anymore, at least i didnt yet
thanks
