    st00pid question: how to clean your HP notebook

    Hi all,

    I purchased a DV4000 (w/X700) last October. I love the machine and gets tons of compliments on it. I use it all the time in a research lab (somewhat dirty environment).

    What would you recommend to clean it? I'd like to get all of the particulate matter out that is building up between the keys and in the indentations around the keyboard. I have access to compressed air, kimwipes (anti-static paper), and just about any chemical known to man.

    Also, I have a BrightView screen and wonder how to remove fingerprints? Someone mentioned a mix of water and alcohol? I have methanol, ethanol, butanol, propanol, etc...? I hate it when people watch video/look at figures and touch the screen.

    Also, this machine rocks. Build quality is outstanding. I travel with it and ocassionally play games/run game servers on it.

    To clean your screen I would recommend getting a cloth made specifically for cleaning eyeglasses and use it to just wipe off your screen. You should not spray anything on it or anything like that. As for cleaning out matter that gets caught in the keyboard probably compressed air would take care of it. Good luck!

    The offical HP cleaning page is awesome. Thanks for the fast responses. I have some microfiber cleaning cloth for eyeglasses. I'll give it a shot.

    Also, I have been typing a ton (trying to finish my dissertation) and I can tell which keys I use the most and why they're located in those particular places on the keyboard (E-R-T-I-O-G-H-C-SHIFT-SPACE-and especially backspace are very shiny). Any recommendations?

    You can order a new keyboard, but that is the only way that I have seen. The finish comes off after you use it for a while. Keyboard should be like $10-20. :p
