i've noticed recently that my hpdv2000t starts up and shuts down markedly more slowly when running on battery than when connected to ac. didn't have that issue until about a week ago. what could be causing this?

on a somewhat unrelated note: how does one ascertain that the notebook runs both cores in a dual core processor?

    thanks

Question 1: I'm not sure why it *just* started--usually when on battery various things underclock to save juice, you can adjust that in the power management settings. Do you mean it's slow to load everything in windows, slow to get to the log in screen, or both?

Question 2: Ctrl-alt-delete>task manager(depending on how windows is set up, you can skip this step)
    >performance>cpu usage history. You should see two different boxes reflecting each core. That's the quickest way I can think of.

Thanks for the reply. It's BOTH, but especially to get to the login screen. I've also noticed that it's not consistent--the slow start up seems to occur when starting from prolonged shutdown, and not when restarting.
