since i bought the hp dv2612ca (1.5 c2d) i noticed a few times already that i loose control of tapping the touchpad to execute something.
the touchpad still works for moving the cursor around, but tapping on it does nothing. (kind of like on a mac)
the only way i can revive it is by restarting the computer.

is this a common issue with this unit?
or do i need to install drivers for the touchpad?

try going into the recovery manager, no to program recovery and yes to the hardware driver one and then find the syaptics touchpad driver and try reinstall it.

I think the dv2000 series use a different touchpad from another company. They don't use synaptics. I think they use ALPs or something like that. They have really bad touchpads compared with Synaptics. My friend has a dv2000 series notebook and the sidescroll does not work. Even with updated drivers.
