i had a thread earlier this week talking about replacing the dc power jack on the laptop pavilion. well i ordered the jack and ripped my laptop apart. did everything carefully, soldered the new jack in and started to put everything back. got it all together, plugged in the ac adapter and got the power light. so im thinking ok, cool. well when i hit the power button, it gets to the HP boot screen where it says ESC to enter bios or F2 for options then shuts down. i know i hooked everything back up. but when i first booted it asked for XP or XP (backup line) but hasnt showed that screen since just the normal boot screen then shuts off. so im not sure what to look for. any ideas?

I don't think I got it. So you cannot boot because it shuts itself down, right? Can you boot without the adapter (on battery)? If yes, does the battery charge when the laptop is off and the adapter is in?
