well i got my dv2188ea from johnlewis

and in the spec it says 100GB hard drive...but when i look in My Computer, it says C drive total size: 82.8GB and the recovery partition is 9.31GB, and in my book that dont add up to 100?!

am i being stupid or have i been mugged?!

    any advice appreciated....

Neither. Just a bit ignorant I suppose ;)

Basically Windows measures the HD space susing the binary system whereas manufacturers measure it using the decimal system. So your 100GB HDD usually has somewhere around ~93/94GB of space.

The remainder is your QuickPlay partition - I believe it lets you play DVD's without booting into the computer

Windows takes up a few gigs. Plus bloatware and other system programs could take up that much space.

ya it sucks would be better if they would give the exact size of drives instead of the system they use now. Bigger your drive lower the space you get from what its stated to have.
