hi can i ask for help? im customizing a laptop that has these specs..
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Quad Core processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.8 GHz
Graphics card 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 graphics [HDMI, VGA] - For Quad Core Processors
Memory 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
Hard drive Upgrade to 750GB 5200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart
Primary battery 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 5.0 hours of battery life +++
Display 17.3" diagonal HD+ High-Definition HP LED BrightView Infinity Widescreen Display (1600 x 900)
Primary optical drive Blu-ray player & Lightscribe SuperMulti DVD burner
Personalization HP TrueVision Webcam and Fingerprint Reader [For BrightView Infinity Display]
Networking Intel Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth
Standard Keyboard
However im faced with a dilemma if the graphic card i chose is dedicated or not. it has these options: 1G ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 graphics [HDMI, VGA] for quad cores or 1G ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics [HDMI, VGA] for dual cores. Are both dedicated graphic cards?
Many thanks....

The 1G ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics is a dedicated graphics card. You won't have switchable graphics with the Core i7-720QM though.

just to clarify a bit further - the 5650m is always the 5650m, theres no difference in the card itself, and it is a dedicated one, ie. it has its own dedicated memory.
the "switchable" means only that if you choose a dual-core cpu (probably an i5 or i3), there will be another gpu, this time an integrated one, additionally to the 5650m. this additional integrated gpu is actually part of the cpu (i5 & i3) and it is mainly there for the time running on battery to switch to, as the integrated one draws far less power than the 5650m, but of course, is also by far weaker than the 5650m. -
It is still a dedicated graphics card. If you want longer battery life, I would recommend getting a high end i5 processor so you can switch back to Intel HD Graphics when your running on your battery to save power. However, if you really do need the power, then go with the i7, but it won't come with the Intel HD Graphics and your battery life will go down a noticeable amount.
to distinguish a dedicated graphic card from an integrated one...
