I am really in trouble now.I tried to format my dv 2000t notebook.I was able to install those sata driver and all stuff but failed to install quick play.I tried around five times then in sixth time
I disabled the native sata support. i format my hard drive to one partion and left space for 1028 unallocated space for quick play..then install windows in c drive.then windows reboot and graphical interface with those windows feature and all stuff was comming.on dvice driver loading bar,my laptop shut down automatically.after that every time when i start my laptop, i am getting message windows reinstalling and then on those graphical screens of windows my laptop shut down.
I tried to format again. But when the set up runs till the choice screen , where setups prompts to press Enter to install f3 to ouit and r for repair at that screen my laptop is shuting down automatically.
now i got stuck .neither i have complete os installed nor i am able to format it again...any body else face this problem before any help will be appriciated.
    thnax

Did you recently swap your ram? I had this problem on a recently built desktop and it's because the ram in there required a higher voltage than what the motherboard was able to supply.

but that time xp format drive , copy all files and reboot and on graphical xp installing view,it shut down.then i tried several time either format or continue to reintall xp.It is shutting down, either it shut down when we boot with xp cd and when xp ask enter to format,f3 to quit at that screen it just shut down.

If you have the recovery disc then that's the best way to reinstall XP. It will take awhile but it'll leave you with the preloaded software it came with. Just uninstall the programs you don't need.

Second, if you have a XP install disc (not upgrade) the you must boot from the cd. Enable SATA on the bios first. Format your hard drive, delete existing partitions and operating system. You can also create a partition when asked if you want to dedicate the whole drive or not. This will make a fresh install and guarantees no bloatware. Make doubly sure that you are connected to a power source and not on battery. Good luck

I think i am riding with my bad luck.one of my recovery disk is corrupted(second one);-(.
but i some how manage to break that installation cycle.i was stuck in the middle of installation.so when that graphical windows xp installing screen came i eject xp cd from dvd rom drive and let xp install all the files.then xp finishes installation and restart.but what i saw is not shocking as xp was half install.
now i have half install xp (it start normally but have a look of windows 95.if I try to install any thing it says Rpc server not found .
now i tried as suggested ( with sata enabled ) ,i booted with cd and xp setup load all files then when i pressed enter to format i got message that xp is not detecting any drive and it can install f3 to quit and then i quit.next i tried again and when wp loaded all files it again quit.the same thing which was happening before.

Ok contact HP and tell them your recovery disks are corrupted OR tell them something like your recovery disk maker didn't burn them right but said it did and now you want to format and it screws up cuz of it.

alernatively download XP, maybe find an OEM version which is like yours and then you can use your CD key. try searching torrent sites

right now i am using xp cd which comes with my brothers laptop some old 6000 business series.is that a reason for this .it says xp with sp2 pack.
it does not ask for any key. So is it fine or i need to download.and one thing more previously my laptop has xp home edition.

well see if you contact Hp and you have an option to purchase the recovery disks from them then maybe you can return all of this to its factory condition.

perhaps your brothers disk is specific to his laptop? i mean you are having problems so somethnig is wrong

why did u format it in the first place? was there something wrong?

have you considered the possibility that your laptop is faulty? perhaps the optical drive is faulty or the drive or RAM?

    Hi SideSwipe,
thanx for ur time.yes for hp thing i bought my laptop from USA.and currently i am in India.so i have no idea about their support in India. but will try if nothing works.
yes i am also thinking of this now i am searching for any link to windows xp oem edition.
actually recently my system becomes very slow.any exe(like explorer,skpe,rundll32 etc) hangs my computer and suck exactly 50% of cpu ussage.and laptop reaches to burning temperature of 79 c or even more as it runs continuously with high cpu usage.
I tried to solve this problem but could not find any solution.someone says that if u hibernate laptop more than it happens as i was doing with mine.may be this was the reason.so i thought to format my laptop :-(.
I did not imagine that it would be so hard for me.
i think there should not be any fault as it was running fine before formatting thing(except cpu usage problem ).

well only two options you have is either getting the disks from HP or downloading an OEM edition you can use.

it couldve probably been a .NET framework problem. i had a similar issue and had to search for a fix to .NET and installation/reinstallation.

oh well right now u only have those choices it seems

If you haven't deleted the recovery partition press f11 when booting to activate. If you formatted the whole drive then my best bet is to call hp or if there's a computer shop close by ask them if they can recover for you. India has lots of tech supports including HP! <grin>

yup if the dell version is not dell specific which means it can only run on a dell machine then it should be fine

sorry for delay.as u people suggested i call hp and they suggested me to go service center.on Friday i submit my notebook they say that hardisk has some problem (some sound and that shutdown issue is not normal).but they say that they will not replace as this series is not launched in India.but my harddisk is passing Hard Drive Self Test.so i think hp will not replace it either way.
    http://http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00372143&lc=en&cc=in&dlc=en&product=3177435&rule=40326&lang=en
as they mention on their site.should i try for replacement or leave it.

    now next thing
today i brought back my notebook from service center. they put xp professional (previously xp home was on my machine).
they only put xp not driver and software as they say for that they need recovery disks for that.now they put two partition on hardisk .c with 20 gb and rest is d.
i repartition my drive with disk management.i recreate d partion and left 1028 mb space for quick play (unallocated).disk management shows it as free space.then i run chipset driver and after that i run qpw from swsetup folder.
when i am triing to run hpqpd i am getting component move error ...
i am fallowing all they setps as suggested in those stick threads on forum.

I am thinking of ordering new recovery disk.In India, hp will not provide me so i am thinking of ordering recovery disk from USA.Now as hp service center people put xp pro in my laptop previously i have xp home so i am confused in ordering recover disks. http://http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00810334&lc=en&cc=in&dlc=en&product=3177435&rule=42329&lang=en
they gave fallowing option but which option should i choose now.i know i am asking stupid things :-(.

In this situation Select recovery disks for this OS
1.Current OS is XP and PC is not Vista capable Order XP. Do not update to Vista
2.Current OS is XP, the PC is Vista capable, and I am ready to upgrade to Vista Order XP
3.Original OS was XP but the upgrade to Vista failed Order XP
4.Original OS was XP and I successfully upgrade to Vista Order XP. Not eligible for Vista

Or create your own Vista disks
5.Original OS was Vista Order Vista

    thanx

thanx f15hp yes i need those drivers somehow all my recovery disk and swseup disk folders are giving CRC error.
