So today I was surprised with a brand new Envy 15 courtesy of my mom. long story short i love the looks of it, came with the USB dent and a raised trackpad. speakers are great. she wants to send it back, and is offering to get me the 17 with the 300gb ssd and 750gb 7200rpm dual drive. right now my envy has the 750gb 7200rpm.

do you guys think the 17 with the 300gb SSD + 750gb 7200rpm HDD is a better choice?

I was looking at the dv7tqe today at Fry's and the speakers are pretty good, and I much prefer the trackpad on the dv7 than i do the Envy's.
The clickable buttons just seem much more solid than the Envy's clickpad... i don't know...

Basically after i return the envy15, i have a choice between:

    ENVY 15

Core(TM) i7-2760QM Processor (2.4 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.5 GHz)
1GB Discrete Graphics AMD Radeon(TM) [HDMI, DP]
    8GB 1333MHz DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    750GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive
    15.6-inch Radiance Full HD Infinity LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)
SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    Full-size Radiance backlit keyboard

    or

    ENVY 17

Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Core(TM) i7-2760QM Processor (2.4 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.5 GHz)
1GB Discrete Graphics AMD Radeon(TM) [HDMI, DP]
    8GB 1333MHz DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    1.05TB 7200 rpm Dual Hard Drive (SSD 300GB + 750GB 7200 rpm)
17.3-inch Radiance Full HD Infinity LED-backlit Display (1920x1080)
Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
    Full-size Radiance backlit keyboard

    or

    dv7tqe

    Steel Gray
    $21 OFF! Genuine Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
    Quad Core i7-2820QM (2.3 GHz, 8MB L3 Cache) w/Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz
2GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics AMD Radeon(TM) [HDMI, VGA]
FREE UPGRADE to 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    660GB 7200 rpm Dual Drive (160GB SSD/500GB 7200 rpm) with HP
17.3" Full HD BrightView Infinity LED(1920x1080)
FREE UPGRADE to Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
    Standard Keyboard with numeric keypad

i have to decide by tomorrow, some time around mid day. what the #&^* should i do!!??? the dv7tqe is the cheapest of the 3, which i feel good about. but it has no backlit keyboard, and no dial, but it sounds almost just as good as the envy...

So what did you go with? It sounds like you have buyers remorse with the Envy 15 (or at least remorse for your mom buying it for you and spending all that money). In such a situation I'd probably just go with the dv7tqe and see if HP irons out the QC issues.
