i just got my lappy [ presario v3118 ] and decided to flush out the junk by formating and reinstalling XP. i coppied the swsetup folder and then flushed the system. i have managed to install all but 1 of the drivers. i have looked in the swsetup folder that i copied before formatting but its not there. in device manager it says Unknown Device. all the hardware on the lappy is working OK. on the location part it says "Microsoft ACPI-complient system". I think its a system device but where can i get the drivers?

You will need to Install Quicklaunch buttons software. The drivers are associated with the Quickplay, volume and the keyboard shortcut buttons.

It was pretty easy. Dowloaded RC2, re-partitioned the hard drive using Ubuntu live CD and installed RC2 on the second partition. It took a while(half a day) but Vista works like a charm other than a couple of minor driver related issues.

Yes, you can install another OS on the second partition without losing your XP data. But I would still highly recommend keeping a backup of your important stuff in case of any eventuality.
