Does anybody know if these are interchangeable with the regular Turions? I have a notebook with a Turion TL-56 in it and I was wondering if I could just swap it out with a Turion Ultra ZM-82 and be good to go.

    Thanks!

The new turions (although they share the same socket as the previous generations i.e socket s1) use a different pinout to the previous generations and are designed to work with the newer RS78xM chipset. I can tell you that the first generation turion x2s (i.e 90nm trinidad core) are not compatible so if your notebook came with one of those forget it, your best bet would be upgrading to a 65nm TL-68. If it came with the second generation 65nm tyler core then perhaps it might be possible but still I doubt it.

Most likely you won't be able to swap cause if HP hasn't provided a BIOS that can recognize the turion ultra for your model it won't work.

Thanks (my notebook is actually a Voodoo not an HP), that's what I was afraid of. I was hoping to benefit from the 2MB cache, more than any speed increase. There is no way I am going to get raped on the price of the TL-68s though. I guess I will just stick with what I have.
