    how much of a difference does it make which one i go with if all the other specs are the same?

    The ML-37 should be about 10% faster. If you have CPU-intensive apps you need all the help you can get. Otherwise it's more of a "why not?" expense, assuming the price premium is reasonable, and you'll be prepared if you do come up with a task that needs it.

    We got the upgraded CPU in the L2000, mostly because the cost wasn't that much, less than $100 if I recall...but generally, you won't feel the difference.

    what is an example of a cpu intensive app?

    How about Matlab or Mathematica? And some other simulation software.

    Something like working with massive images or video compression.

    In these cases the more cpu power and RAM the better also remember that mathematica has a 64 bit addition.
