I have the HP pavilion tx1040ea laptop, which is a fantastic computer. One flaw is that when I put the computer in hibernate mode (in vista) it shuts down properly, but it can at any time wake up by itself. It has done so standing by itself on a desk and even when in my bag, so when I want to use it the battery is drained!!

At first I thought it might be some "wake-up-on-LAN" thingy, so I turned off the wireless and bluetooth and disconnected any cables. It still wakes up now and then. Then i found out that it is possible to wake the computer from the hibernate mode (and also from shut down) using the IR remote! So is it possible that the computer wakes up due to some IR noise?

I called HP support and they could not help me. They suggested that it was due to conflicts in Vista, but I am not so sure about that. Furthermore, they said it was not possible to turn the IR port off either. Any one who is wiser than the support team?

It is Windows Media Center downloading the Guide Updates. Windows Vista has the ability to set the BIOS to turn on at a predetermined time to active the Task Scheduler. Go into your Event Viewer (Control Panel/Administrative Tools) and look under Applications and Services Log / Media Center and look at the times for Guide Update you will see it turning your computer on around 2:00 to 3:00 AM.

You can disable the Event from occurring using the Task Scheduler and disable all items under Media Center.

Thanks for the quick response. I have diabled the Media Centre stuff now and hope for the best. I do have a TV/card, are there additional issues with this, or could it be that the installation of the card in Media Centre triggers the update-wake-up-thingy? I will let you now if my problem goes away in a few days.

Just to let you know. Disabling the Media Centre updates worked fine, my laptop does not wake up anymore. Again, thanks for the advice!!
