How come this notebook cost so much more then the dv6000 and dv2000 and it does not have a Intel processor

It's small, and it is a tablet PC. Tablet's have the pen-enabled screens, and those always cost more.

The tx1000z is not just a notebook, it is a convertible and works as a Tablet PC as well. Such convertible notebooks generally sell at a premium compared to regular notebooks. Plus the tx1000z is one of the lower priced convertibles. Toshiba's lowest priced convertible for example is the Satellite R20 which retails for $1100 but ships with a Celeron M processor and 512MB RAM. The Asus R1F retails for ~$1700. Considering the competition the tx1000z is still cheaper and good VFM.

Besides, it is a very new model. Prices will fall.

I have one of these. Its ok, and for a cheap tablet its not a bad choice, but i wish that it came with XP, vista is really not ready for general use. I had to re-install from scratch with a retail version of vista, just to get the thing working because the preloaded version was sooooo buggy that it was taking over 3min just to boot.
Its been a month and things are still going wrong. The main issue is the very poor wireless, I believe it is releated to this, and will be editing the reg tonite in the hope of fixing that problem.
But why in the hell should one need to edit the registry for a simple everyday thing such as accessing the internet via wireless???
Some other issues include, audio problems, when the lid is closed if sound was on max, a loud scratching sound can be heard, like wise disk access etc also comes thru the speakers, I hope future drivers will fix this.
Screen is very reflective, more so then normal, due to the added touch sensitive layer. Thus you pretty much have to have the laptop on max brightness even when indoors (exception is at night with the lights off of course). Thus battery life is very poor with the 4 cell battery, lucky if you get 1.5h. There is a 6 cell but that sticks out about 2-3m out the back making the laptop less portable.
So in summary, if you need/want a tablet and are on a tight budget then this might be an ok choice. But I would suggest that you save up and get the ASUS with XP instead. I wish I had.
