I ordered a Compaq R3000T a few days ago and have a question.

I cheaped out and chose the basic DVD-ROM drive since I was planning on getting this drive for it:
    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-133-004&depa=1

But now that I looked at the 3D view thing again, the optical drive within the notebook appears to have a rounded front.

I know its a longshot, but does anyone know whether that drive can be put into my laptop?

    Thanks

Yes. I swapped a Toshiba 4x slimline drive into my HP zv5000z. You'll need a #0 Phillips screwdriver (Target sells a "Stanley Precision Screwdriver" set for $5). The new drive is recessed about 3/8" into the case because it doesn't have the goofy curved bezel the original HP drive has, but if anything it's an improvement. If I were buying a new drive today I'd buy the same Panasonic slot-loading drive you picked out. Let us know how it works.

    Cool.

    Thanks for the reply.

As tools go, no worries there. I've got tons.

And I'm really glad I can use it as I love slot-loaders. I'll get back to ya'll when I get it. Thanks again!
