Outside of Ram, Hardrive, and the OS, what else is upgradeable/able to be changed on the dv9700t.
Thanks in advance.

CPU...but it isn't worth it. That's about it.
-
).
It's a pretty simple task, as long as you don't damage anything in the process. -
yes, i did all the upgrades to mine and it still beats out the max config on hp's web site:
1. cpu - t5450 to t9300 - $325.00
2. memory - 3gb to 4gb - $42.00
3. screen - 1440x900 to 1920x1200 - $370.00
4. internal bluetooth $100.00
5. had a hitachi 7200rpm, but the drive ran slower than my 5400rpm's so i took it back. cost was $165.00 if i would have kept it.
6. bought t9740us pre configured for $1300 with 2 year warranty.

gonna have to say....it was worth it. -
Exactly, I plan to get a T7700 or T9300, but I can get a T7700 for 150 bucks! Memory easy upgrade to 4 GB, bluetooth, the internal module is too expensive, I plan just to get an external one that's crazy small, you honestly don't know it's there! The hard drives are easy to upgrade, right now I've got 160 GB + 250 GB, but I plan to get a WD 320 GB or something along those lines. The only thing I am amazed at is the high res screen you bought. Where did you manage to find the panel? What did you need to do this?

So why exactly are you guys upgrading all those parts? Is it because your laptop are old? Or because you guys bought your laptops with all the lower end parts and now want to upgrade yourselves?
-
Probably an outdated laptop w/ expired warranty that needed a makeover. Thats quite a project. Id give johnksss credit for experimenting
-
Good info - I was looking at a custom 9700 on HP for about $1800 - with the T8700 (right number? the 2.4 ghz one) and now you can't even configure an Intel based 9700 on the site. They only sell the T5450 retail, but other than that, the configuration is perfect for what I need. So, upgrading the CPU would be a good thing, IMO!
-
lol, that's a good one. bought this in january. of this year.
it's brand new, but hp doesn't sell a pre-config model with a 1920x1200 screen, internal bluetooth or a t9300 chip. and they barely started adding the t9300 chip on their site. and my warranty still has 22 months left. (in store) warranty is more for parts than anything else now...lol -

what model LCD should i get? i have a dv9500 with the 1680x1050 resolution. i want the higher resolution screenand where did you buy your CPU, HD, etc?
-
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=221429
and i bought it from http://www.smartmicrousa.com/ -
i don't know whats the point of HP retailing thier products with really crappy processors like the T5450 and really crappy gpu's like the geforce 8600gs....and yet their in first place for laptops =.="
-
-
-
yep, looks and price! i just didnt love the cpu and screen, so i changed them. but everything else was nice.
-
i might eventually move on to the T9300 but i dont think its really worth it (for me). the screen, that looks promising.
do you think the same model that you bought for you laptop will fit in mine? -
go on ahead and buy that t9300. ill sell you mine. lol
because now i want to upgrade to the x9000 chip. -
-
yes, there is -
and the x9000 is overclockable
-
-
for extreme overclocking...yes! moderate over clocking...not really. it's more of a *i have the power should i need* it sort of thing.
besides srunni, i'm a tech and i like to tinker....lol -
I make up for that on the software end thoughI'm trying to get Gentoo running on my dv9700t right now, and it's quite the pain
-
understood! i was trying to justify that $800 dollar price tag myself....
linux huh....haven't messed with that one yet. -
I hope that this isnot highjacking, if so please let me know. Why would my processor score read so low. View attachment 16497

Have upgraded my 8710w with 1920x1200 screen from WSXGA, T9300 from T7300 and now I have almost perfect machine! Very happy with it!
-
-
could be your running in power save or balanced mode... check power settings. -
I am happy as well. I was just wondering why my processor score is so low. Yes checked power settings and it is set to performace. I know laptops don't run as well as desktops. I have a AMD 3800 x2 and a 5600x2 and they both seem to work quicker.
Any other things I could check....
P.S. how about the disk recovery disk that you get to make one copy of. I am under the impression that if the warrenty expiered and the HD become no good (needs to be replaced) that you would have to purchace the Operating system again. If this is so, that would suck... and unfair. I mean you allready purchased it once with the system.. Any thoughts? -
Your score is low because the main number is determined by the lowest subscore. An NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS is a pretty bad graphics card (I should know, it's the one in my dv9700t
), so the "Gaming Graphics" subscore, and thus the overall score, is naturally low. I wouldn't pay much attention to the Windows Experience Index though, that thing is a piece of crap thrown into Vista by Microsoft as a way of determining whether your computer's "Vista ready". For a real benchmark, check out 3DMark 06.

I think that I will down load the program that you are talking about and test my unit. I will post the results this week end. What should I be seeing for results. I am not a gamer at all just using photo shop. My system is very close to your config. How do you like the resolution. I had a hard time with text size. I made some adjustment a coulple of dozen times. I choose the high res. for picture viewing. Still doing all editing on desktop with a Dell anti glare screen. The screen is night and day over my 2-3 yr. old Acer notebook. They sure have come along way.

dumb question
where do you get the internal bluetooth adapter?
I've got a dv9548us that I wanna waste my tax return on.
already read about getting the 1920x1200 screen (fukkin awesome)
don't really have a need to upgrade the t5450 yet, but if putting in the bluetooth adapter gets me close, I might as well do it. -
buy it from hp at an outrages price and you still have to buy the real cable that goes to it...separate. total cost is about 185 bucks
or
buy the bluetooth mod from ebay and buy the cable kit from hp. total cost is about 100-110 bucks. -
Hi, johnkss just wondering how many processes you have running when your system starts. When my system shipped with all the crapwrare there were like 75+. I got it down to like 60 and did another Vista test and the results are below. Are there any settings on the video card that can be tweeked. I don't see any options in the bios. The bois contains like 1 page. The Nivdia utility is way beyond me. I know nothing about gaming. There was a newer driver on Nividia site but when I downloaded it and tryed to run it, the installer said I was not using Vista 32 bit. There is no way to email Nividia directly that I can see. There is a fourm so I may have to make a post on there.

1: download 169.09 drivers
2: download inf file
3: extract files to folder
4: put inf file in folder
5: download rivatuner 2.08 http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163
6: install rivatuner
7: extract files to folder
8: put inf file in folder
9: run setup file from folder
10: reboot computer -
Johnkss I downloaded the driver and .inf. Once update the 3D and gameing graphs rose 1/10 to 4.4 the other remains at 3.5.
The other utility, is that what you use? Are you a gamer? I take it that there is nothing in the bios. I mean I am not overlooking anything, just that one page. -
the rivatuner is to over clock your video card, but not to an outrages number.
for some strange reason, they have the dv9700 video cards with dedicated 512 memory so underclocked that you really cant play games the way like to. so you basically have to clock the card at a more reasonable clock. something like 600/425/1200. running this will greatly improve your wei score and your gaming experience. -
johnkss after installing the RivaTuner I am not able to save my overclocking adjustment. In the system tweaks I up the core and shader together and memory. I then apply, close the program and got back in, the modded setting are at the d faults 400 800 400 On there web site it show a test button but it is not on my utility.....

Original thread: I can't locate compatible RAM at New Egg for the dv9700T series using their RAM configurator. (I can't find Toshiba M700 compatible RAM there either; too new?). I have 2 GB/2DIMMs preinstalled I want to upgrade to 4GB/2DIMMs at the best price, possibly both units. Any suggestions, please?
-
Hey Johnksss I would like to know where did you get your processor (the upgrade one), 'cause I can't find a place where to get one. Thanks.
