    upgrading hard disc for compaq laptops

    hi,
    wanted to know if all these new hard drives by western digital and hitachi of 250gb capacities and some of 7200rpm compatible with older laptops like my v2300 series and v3030 compaq. :confused:

    HDDs for the most part are universal. The only things to look out for is whether your laptop supports IDE or SATA. I'm not sure about all laptops, but most only have SATA 150 and not SATA 300 (please correct me if I'm wrong, or on which laptops support SATA 300). So basically the only thing you have to worry about when ordering your HDD is whether your laptop is SATA or IDE, and if you are only swapping out a new HDD for your old HDD you won't have to buy another adapter for the HDD to connect to the laptop.

    Envision has stated the main points. You should be able to fit most hard disks in the notebook. SATA and IDE are types of interface. Your notebook supports only one, and not the other. You should be able to find out, and then you need to buy the same hard disk. SATA 150 and 300 are nthing to worry about. Currently, no notebook uses SATA 300, but those hard disks are compatible with SATA 150.
