well i am not sure, but for those of you who have the v3000 series compaq, i was wondering, is the maximum supported ram 2gb or 4gb?
and if it is 4gb, is it a good idea to wait for prices to drop, or purchase now? cause the lowest I've seen for 4gb is $ 355. although 2gb is really cheap now $70-$100+, i don't want to purchase 4gb when 2gb is not going to be enough for me later.
any recommendations? or sources of the cheapest ram? besides newegg (seen all they have)

NO WAY! 2GB ram stick for 97.85? are u kidding me? that cant be right! are those even reliable?
and I'm reading this right its only one stick, but damn a 2gb stick is only 98 bucks?
so how much of a boost would i get for gaming? hehe
if the price is still the same when i have the $$$ ill buy it, but lately i haven't heard of anyone else trying to put 4gb on their compaq v3000z either. also is eWiz.com a trusted site? and is it possible that this ram could be refurbished?? or "factory reconditioned" cause it seems a little bit too cheap compared to other online stores, selling the same exact type of ram. also since this is already 4gb of ram, dual channel is not really necessary anymore is it?

wow the same exact ram here is $548 http://www.bjselectronics.com/product_info.php?products_id=471&osCsid=54q42mup9mhcicmqcgbdjqa954

but i just chatted online with an hp rep, and he said that it only accepts a maximum of 2gb at 533
but iono, i kind of doubt it cause it took him 15 min to answer me back! and im sure the v3000z can accept 667 too right?

am i wrong? someone please find out who's right!

Ewiz is pretty reliable and well known store. Check out their ratings at reseller ratings. Stores cannot really sel reconditioned/refurbished items as new and get away with it, so these memories should be new. Plus they use memory chips from Micron who are the parent company/manufacturers of Crucial.

RAM prices are dropping fast. I believe in the past 3-4 months prices have fallen by about 65% When I bought 2GB for my V3000z I paid ~$120, now you can get the same for around ~$60. Naturally, the 2GB sticks have fallen in price as well thanks to wonders of mass production.

Hmm...considering they just copied my v3000z review and didnt even bother to change the pictures, I wouldnt put too much trust in the accuracy of the website.

true, but whats the worst that could happen if i did get 2 2gb sticks?
also how can eWiz.com sell it for that cheap, compared to other stores, who sell it for a much higher price, the second lowest ive seen per stick was around 250. but ewiz can sell them for 98 bucks? theres gotta be a catch? :)

The worst that can happen is probably the laptop wont boot. In that case just put the old memory back and return the 4GB back. TBH 2GB should be more than enough for a system like the V3000z - its not a gaming machine so adding more RAM wont really imprive your gaming performance since it is going to limited by the power of the GPU and if you are running Win XP 2GB should last its entire life. For Vista, it might make some sense if you are working with large photoshop files but from my experience 2GB will do fine for everyday use.

As for as the memory prices, it really depends on when the stores placed the orders for the RAM, so there will be some slight differences in the price but most likely in the next few weeks/months the prices will probably drop to the same level at all stores.
