    im thinkn of get a usb hub.i wonna have one usb cable(hub usb cable) going into my laptop and then hookn my usb external hdd,corded usb mouse,usb modem and maybe one or two other usb devices.will this be a good idea?of course i will have the two other usb plug ins that i wont use.

    and is there a difference in cheap hubs you get on ebay to ones that cost double or triple the price in stores.

    I just got this for my Mac. Seems to work pretty good. $9 after rebate and google checkout.

    Some devices requires a powered hub to run due to some usb outputs do not put out much power to power such devices.

    if you require extra power, you can get a usb hub with an adapter to plug into the wall

    I ended up getting the D-Link USB hub with 7 ports (DUB-H7). It has a power adapter to be plugged into the wall. With it, I have the following:
    - printer
    - mouse
    - Blackberry
    - USB key
    - Card reader

    but wot about the data transfer rate of the hdd that i will have plugd in.how will that be affected if i have the modem,mouse and other things hookt up and all on at the same time.

    and how will i know if i need to get a hub with its own power source.the externall hdd that i do have has its own power source
