Some devices requires a powered hub to run due to some usb outputs do not put out much power to power such devices.

if you require extra power, you can get a usb hub with an adapter to plug into the wall

I ended up getting the D-Link USB hub with 7 ports (DUB-H7). It has a power adapter to be plugged into the wall. With it, I have the following:
- printer
- mouse
- Blackberry
- USB key
- Card reader -
but wot about the data transfer rate of the hdd that i will have plugd in.how will that be affected if i have the modem, mouse and other things hookt up and all on at the same time.
and how will i know if i need to get a hub with its own power source.the externall hdd that i do have has its own power source
usb hub question
