Hey all, i'm really happy with my HP notebook. As a matter of fact I'm posting this message on the notebook from my college library. I downloaded Yahoo Messenger in like 5 mins as opposed to 30-40 mins on my desktop pc at home. The speed is incredible so far!

Anyway, I asked a fellow student for help getting connected to the school's wireless network and got on fine. But he mentioned that I may want to use a different browser other than Internet Explorer. Mentioned something about faster connections or more ease of use - something to that effect. Any input on this topic? He mentioned I may want to look online for a browser like Foxfire (or Fox something)? Please advise on this matter. Other than that, I love my notebook. Very happy, Greg

I don't think Foxfire is any faster, but you'll get a lot less malware with it. Opera is the other good browser choice.

If you havent done it already, I would suggest upgrading to IE7, Microsft released the newer version just yesterday....

Firefox is good but it wont be any faster than Internet explorer. You can try firefox or even Opera both are free downloads & very good browsers.

i see some negative opinions about firefox here... i recommend firefox. i think it's faster than IE and Opera. IE seems a little sluggish and clunky when opening pages and opening new tabs on IE RC2 was a horror.
also, there's a newly posted Firefox Guide for Beginners in the software forum. you can check that out a try getting firefox to work faster for you.

Negative opinions here...not unless you are a typical fanboi. I dont know how you see FF is much faster than IE, even with all the tweaking you will only notice maybe a few ms diffference. Nothing much to write about as being 'faster' especially if you use braodband.

There is no problems with tabs in IE7 being sluggish.

Firefox is less vulnerable to exploited security flaws and found flaws get fixed faster. For that reason alone it's worth running. I only use IE for brain-damaged sites that won't work correctly with Firefox. I wouldn't expect a discernable difference in speed.

I second the above.... I've been getting allot of malware/adware type stuff sneaking in here lately, using IE.

Really liked Maxthon -but it being based off the IE engine was letting stuff thru.

Trying to get used to FireFox.... One feature I liked in Maxthon was resuming webpages that maybe you had closed down by mistake (double click and it closes tab).... Anyway to make FireFox close down a tab with a double click, and make it resume, bring back a page?

There's a Session Manager plugin that will remember your tabs when you restart Firefox (VERY handy, I keep ~20 tabs open) and Firefox 2 has that functionality built-in (to be released RSN). I don't know if it'll do quite what you want.
