When you order a custom through HP when does paypal bill your account? When you order or when the item is shipped?

When you order. In general, I would avoid dealing with PayPal unless there is no alternative...

There wasnt really any alternative because I had a bunch of money on my paypal account and didnt want to have to wait the 3 to 4 days that it takes to withdraw it to my bank account. Anyways I found the answer to my question and they bill your account when you buy it not when it is shipped if there was anyone else who was curious out there

Is it so bad that your account is billed through PayPal at the time of purchase?..

Even if you went the route of paying via creditcard (which I did), your account would have a "sort of charge" (basically a pre-authorization) on it that would remain on it until the order is "processed" (not built or shipped). Your account will show your original balance. Yet, there will be that pre-authorization amount that you will not have access to. You will not even be able to stop the payment unless you report the card "stolen". So you are going to pay for the order one way or the other, before the unit is even built.

No it was no big deal. I was just curious cause I was going to go and buy a bunch of accessories but since it went through quickly I needed to wait a tad longer for my next check to roll through.

The reason I don't recommend PayPal is that you would have less protection in case there is something wrong with your order or shipping. PayPal is notoriously hard to deal with in case of problems like that. You will get a much better protection from a credit card, such as Amex that would even refund your money (upto a certain amount) within 90 days if the store or HP refused a return. Of course, you can still pay by credit card via PayPal, but that doesn't make sense unless the seller only takes PayPal - which is not the case here.
