Did compaq give the axe to this line? I was just on their website the other day eying a lappy for xmas. Even though the v2000z is older, its a sweet deal for $353 stock. Putting it to the specs i liked brought it to about $530, but it seems like its gone....or something...

My guess would be yes, it's the end of the line. I just got a v2000us from Circuit City for $500. I figure that a laptop at that price is probably "clearance". And it tends to be my luck (definitely not planned that way) that I buy the "last" of anything. Did it a year ago with my desktop from Gateway. They stopped selling the unit about a month after I bought it.

The v2000 is a nice enough setup and will work for what I need - great keyboard, WiFi, USB ports, and great screen. But you can get used laptops with more features for the same amount of $$.

Hm, yes it's gone. It was there yesterday for sure because I configured both v2000z and v3000z and found out that there is $50 difference when both are mirror-configured. I guess HP saw that, too and discontinued it :(

I must say I am a proud owner of one, although it's masked as HP Special Edition :)

The V2000 line lasted quite long - from Dothan Pentium M's(400MHz FSB) to the Core Duo. More than 2 years, longer than any other recent HP model.
