Someone upgraded to a slot loading drive on the v2000z before. I dont have the link but it is in these forums. So slim drives from newegg will work. As far as the faceplate, I think you can take off the faceplate from your old drive and place it in your new drive. (I have not done this but it looks like the faceplate on my v2000z can be taken off.)

just for reference the DVDRW (dual-layer) Drive that HP supplied with my v2000z is a Pioneer DVR-k15

Sometimes the connectors on the bezel connectors do not line up. The modification mentioned above, I think the user said the bezels did match perfectly but were close. I did swap a NEC DVD burner with a combo drive in an old Persario, but not the v2000z.

If you plan on changing your drive and want to use the same bezel you should just buy the drive from the same manufacturer LG=LG or NEC=NEC so you can just take the old bezel and installed it to your new drive so the slots for the bezel will match perfectly. I recently bought from ebay a toshiba dvdrw but the bezel slots didnt match up with the slots of LG drive bezel(compaq), so i bought a LG dvdrw from ebay again and now its ok.

    Hi,

I am planning to buy the NEC 6750A DVD writer for the Compaq V2000z. Will I be able to exactly fit the NEC Drive on my laptop? I will be changing the faceplates also not to change the case coloring. If anyone has experience with NEC dvd writers, please reply.

    thanks

The OEM DVD-ROM drive of v2000z has a model number DV-28E. Google shows that it is a TEAC drive.
