Don't mean to scare ya, but I've googled and have seen nothing but horror stories about their and other computer retailer's extended warranties as well, mostly about how they wouldn't honor them even if everything is explictily explained in fine print.

Do not buy the extended warranty. We did and it is useless. They will not honor it! It is a scam. Recommend that you shop elsewhere. There is a reason that Circuit City is loosing market share - poor to non-existent customer service!
We bought an HP laptop. When you go into any program such as word or photo editing or excell, it will operate for 1-5 minutes then shuts the computer down! transferred the software to another computer to eliminate that as a potential problem. No problem on another computer. After hours on the phone, finally convinced them to have it shipped in. They took off all the software, installed the operating system and booted it up. Then they did nothing else except let it sit there. Said it stayed on so there is nothing wrong! Refuse to try to use the computer to duplicate problem. After sending it in twice they said well just have to get it fixed somewhere else. So much for a $300 extended warranty. Circuit City says not there problem- even though it is their extended warranty with a company they contract.

Yeah, I think its good that you go with the manufacturer's warranty, never the retail stores. I have heard basically like 10 horror stories to 1 good experience, so yeah.
