    Hello,

This might have been posted before but i searched 30 pages and haven't found it yet. I have a Compaq Presario V3000 laptop now for 2 years. I recently bought a 12 cell battery for it. After 2 weeks of using it, it said Time remaining:Unknown in the battery meter. I can use my ac cord with no battery and my 6 cell (primary) battery works. I ran battery checker and it doesnt even recognize that I have a battery installed.

Is there a special way to install or an option in the computer or is this battery might be dead :(

    Help..

    Thanx :)

Maybe the battery that you bought is faulty

hmm this all started when i left my computer in standby mode accidentally and the battery kinda drained over night... when i got it started through the ac power cord, i seen that the battery is not working. I let it charge. I took it to school and it ran fine with the battery being unknown. but now it wont hold a charge.. :\

Call the HP support line and explain. They're probably going to send you a new one (free of charge). Batteries are warranted.

yes, i didnt buy the battery from HP :\ i dont know if that matters. I am contacting the people in china who sold me this (ebay) , the battery is a direct replacement from HP though,, (says it on the battery). right now im letting it charge for a day just to see if anything will happen..

any other suggestions or odd ways to fix it let me know.

Yikes! A chinese made battery? Gotta be careful 'cause there's lots of good imitations from there. HP batteries are not THAT expensive to warrant a potential problem. You can compare the letterings on the battery and will give a tell-tale sign that it's not genuine. I know I know HP batteries are made in China anyhoo. Genuine batts have internal chips to stop overcharging.

hmmmm so if this battery doesnt have that chip and it does overcharge.. it will ruin the cells? Does that mean if i get it replaced with the same one should i monitor it charging and then take it out at night?... The battery has a 6 month warranty... im not sure right now if it is a hp replacement.. says replacement for HP models and compaq models. grrrrrr. i only got the battery so i can have enough power for 4 or 5 hours without worrying to charge.

I just received a email from the company that sold me the battery. They asked if i was using a ac adapter for a 12 cell battery. I was using the ac adapter HP gave me for a 6 cell battery..is that different?

No, they are the same. The size of the battery doesnt matter in this case since the power required out of the adaptor is going to be the same. The only time when HP offered a different power adaptor was when the system was offered with dedicated grpahcis card which consumed more power than the default integrated graphics option.

On eBay you have to be careful of the wordings. "Works with.." doesn't mean it's an OEM. I usually look for OEM in searches to get the real thing but then again there are some clever vendors that's underhanded and sell "copies" that looks like the real thing. If it comes in a HP plastic wrap I'm pretty sure it's the real thing. Hope the battery doesn't leak and do harm.
