    The screen manufacturer you get is based on luck. Although some people have called in & requested a particular screen but still they dont gurantee you will get the requested screen. As for as the best screens, QDS(Quanta), AUO & LPL are generally considered the best. SEC(Samsung) screens have received the most complaints.

    To find out the manufacturer of the screen look under device Manager-->Monitor-->Plug n Play Monitor-->Details Tab--> You will see the Device Instance ID's listed in the white box like this-
    DISPLAY\QDS005C\4&........

    QDS is short for Quanta Display Systems
    AUO -> AU Optronics
    SEC -> Samsung
    LPL -> LG Philips
    CMO-> Chi Mei

    So what's the matter? I am holding SEC screen, and I feel nothing wrong about it. Every LCD manufacture has the defect, it is matter of you are luck or not luck.

    Its just some of the screens supposedly look better/brighter. I'm not sure if most people could notice the difference.

    But, iv seen the 3000z next to one of the HP 2000 models, the HP did look slightly more crisper. Since they both use the hp design 14" form, im guessing the HP got equiped with one of the better screens.

    I got a LG Phillips in my v3000z - looks real good,
    saw a hp and compaq, in store, with bright view, both
    looked dim and hard to see, so I ordered mine with out
    - but I also use mine out side, and in work shops with bright
    light - so gloss would be bad

    not sure if it was the gloss, or just a crappy lcd, that made
    it look that way tho

    Nah, not really. They are essentially the same, so you have probably the same chance of getting the poorer screen in the dv2k or the v3k.
