I hate to have to grumble in my fist post, but I'm stumped.

I just received an HP/Compaq v3000z. I recently bought a v6030us from Cicuit City ($669!) with which I am so far pleased. Except for the bloatware...

But all has not been well setting up my new v3000z. I booted her up, made my recovery discs, then tried to connect to the internet and what do I discover....there's no ethernet adaptor??? There appears to be no sign of a 1394 adaptor anywhere on my system. Now, I realize these systems are customizable, and I'm no computer guru, but I don't think I missed checking THIS component.

Could it be that it's there, but just not showing up? If so, how do I find the d***ed thing? If it's not there, is this something I can buy and plug in myself, or do I have send this baby back to HP?

The Ethernet jack is on the left side in the middle. The IEEE1394 jack is towards the front (4-pin mini, not the larger 6-pin powered connector you might be more familiar with). Are you saying that the Ethernet jack isn't there or that it's there but Windows doesn't see it?

1394 (firewire) is not the same as ethernet...which are you "missing"?

The v3000z has both an ethernet port and a 4 pin firewire port.

There are pictures in that link which may give you a clue where to look.

D'oh! I've got to get more sleep... I'm not as much of an idiot as I may seem.

Basically, I forgot XP had its own drivers for DSL installed. My DSL disk said there was no adaptor configured for TCP. And when I looked in device manager, and my network connections, all I saw was the NVidia Network Controller and my wireless network.

I solved the problem by, uhm....reading the instructions. All is well.

    That's good to hear.
Most of errors that I've seen occurring are User Errors.
But as long as it ends well :D.
