hey guys, I recently bought a v4000t and reformatted the puppy.

i only chose to install all the hardware options and the 'default power settings' from the software tab from the software cd HP sent me.

however many times when my laptop is in standby via closing the laptop or pushing the power button(set to standby) it seems it wont come out of standy, the screen is blank and nothing i do except hold down the power button to restart the computer will work

also this doesnt matter if the laptop is plugged in or not.

if anyone could solve or direct me to a solution for this problem, id thank you so much.. its so annoying

    thanks

Check the background programs, which my prevent the notebook from waking up.
Other than that, ty modifying the settings in the Power options. For example disable the HDD turn off timer or change the power scheme
Btw, do you have problems when the notebook hibernates?

Hmm.. Don't have this problem at all, but I didn't reformat. I'm running latest HP drivers too.. I have heard of this happening on the dv4000 though. I think it was someone who installed video drivers direct from ATI instead of getting the older ones on the HP website. When they installed the HP drivers, it fixed the problem.. But they didn't like using the old drivers so they switched back to the new drivers, and changed their power-management so that it changed the behavior of Windows when the lid was closed. Can't seem to find the thread.. Darn

I had the same problem. It seems that HP has to modify the ATI Mobility drivers in order to work properly on the dv4000.

The only thing I dislike is that they haven't been updated since the end of October. There have been 3 freakin' Catalyst releases since then!!! (5.12, 5.13, 6.1)

The solution I think was to turn off standby whenever you close the lid. But that's a rather pointless workaround, since Standby no longer becomes useful. You'd rather hibernate instead!

Yeah, I have the same problem. Out of the box, it always worked fine, but when I upgraded to the latest ATI Catalyst drivers (which I wanted to do because Half-Life 2 seemed to work much better with them), waking up from standby works about half the time now. All power settings are the same as they were, and I see no background programs that would affect this.

I don't want to go back to the HP drivers... anybody else have any ideas?

Ya, it's a driver problem. Mine won't come back from standby (tried it once) But then I rarely standby anyway, either leave it on or it goes in hibernate.
