Anybody think the Compaq Presario v5000z will have dropped in price by this time next year?

It will prolly not be manufactured by next year. Im sure hp will come out with a newer model. Plus the specs of it are gonna be really outdated, so u can prolly find a used one real cheap. Thats the extent of the price going down.

Do you think that a used one would be worth it?

Just as an update, HP is no longer selling the HP dv5000 or its Compaq twin V5000, so if you want to buy one next year, it most certainly will have to be used/refurb.

Depends on the price, specifications & condition of the notebook.

Yep, just noticed that this morning, as I had a configured one sitting in the HP shopping cart from last night. It now says "Item Discontinued".

Luckily, I have a v5000z already on order with a confirmed build date of Oct 2. I may be getting one of the last ones...... ;)

Whoa... That's scary. Just when I was about set to buy the thing, they discontinue it! One night it's there and the next day it's not!! Ouch.

Next question: Think they'll introduce another model at about the same price with possibly better specs??

Yeah, I was a little miffed as well. This is the 2nd V5000z I have ordered this month, and was hoping for a third (for family).

Another option for you would be to check out the existing preconfigured units at retailers like Office Max and such. You may get one for a decent deal now that HP has officially scrapped production.

Doubtful, as the V6000 series is the replacement for the V5000. I'm surprised that HP kept the previous generation available even this long. Compal must have had a large surplus of parts for these units, which now must be exhausted.

I hadn't even looked at the v6000 because I was more interested in performance than appearance. Hmmm... the v6000 is a nice one, not too bad of a price jump, and it has more to offer. I like that 5400 RPM hd!

Don't know much about nVidia - can somebody clue me in?

There will always be a laptop with teh same specs and same pricing, every year. It just will be named differently.

So if u have a certain budget, ull be sure to find somethin for u next year and it will be just as good as the v5000 this year.
