i saw this on another forum and it made me curious. any feed back would be appreciated. my hp does not have the volume display bars on the screen when adjusting the volume. i went to compusa and checked out 2 dv4000s, a l2000, and dv8000 and none of them had the volume display although an older zd8000 did. so i'm assuming the older models did and the newer models do not but before i reformatted i think i did have the volume display but not really sure. its not a big deal as everything works fine i was just curious.

Neither does mine, I'm pretty sure none of these notebooks have em. But I know you can download some sort of program to show that info on-screen.

I had an HP zv5000z - it had the volume controls - there wasn't any on-screen display. There also isn't one on my new laptop.

I found this thread a while back. The MS program worked on my V2000z.
See if it works for you

I have one of the new Dv4000 with the x700. I do have the volume displays. The system has been rebuilt including a reinstall of quick play, and adjusting partition size.

I also got a new DV4000 with x700. It did have the volume displays initially, but now it is gone. I am not sure if that is due to one of the updates I did. In addition, the volume display for my Logitech LX500 also disappeared. I think it is due to the same cause. I am investigating it.

my first guess would have been the reformat i did, but since warhammer has it and did a reformat i'd say that wasn't it and it also wouldn't explain the 4 at compusa which didn't have it either. mystery unsolved?

I've done a deep search on the web, now my Logitech keyboard volume display is restored but not the dv4000 buttons. There have been reports that other software conflict would prevent to volume display overlay onscreen with earlier HP/Compaq keyboards. I have tried deactivating the Norton Antivirus AutoProtect which was the problem in one case but it did not help the dv4000. I did a re-partition of the HD to add a WinXP Pro partition last week, I am not sure if that is the cause. The volume display does not work in either partition. After the re-partitioning, I have to re-install the QuickPlay due to the change of partition number. The volume display does work in Quick play though. Mystery remains unsolved.

The MS program did work in my DV4000, but it created other problems. Finally I have it uninstalled. Now I am using iTouch from Logitech and it works really well. It also match exactly my LX500 external keyboard's OSD. I downloaded iTouch from here.

I would to update you all that there is a way to add back the volume OSD without those keyboard program. Look up the sticky thread on this topic and look for post #15 and #16 here.
