update - Yes, its here, arrived yesterday at 3:30pm. We are loving this notebook...its our first and I can't say enough about it.
I love the brightview, and am so glad we choose this option. I don't notice any glare. now, there is some, but you don't notice it since the screen is so crisp and clear. I highly recommend it.
Speed is incredible compared to our Pentium II desktop. I'm currently typing on the notebook and its hooked up to dial up service which was very easy.
I plan on adding more info later as I use the notebook more. Havn't even tried any games or movies yet. Too much other stuff to do first![]()
Purple, so sorry to hear about your zx. Hopefully you'll be able to exchange or order a new one. Not sure what I would have done if that happened to me...

I take it there will be an update with expected arrival date/time?
Picked up a sleeve from Best Buy today (fits 15.4", first I've seen) $16, just in time.

Ahh..thanks for the advice. But, it would be nice to know when its coming so I know when to be home.
It did update today, but basically just package data transmitted to Fedex system.
sorry if I'm asking questions, but this is our first laptop and I'm very excited about it arriving, as I'm sure you can tell.
I just thought there might be others in the same situation or were in my situation and might be able to help.
Been trying to keep myself busy...but nope, its not working

update says - left fedex ramp - Shanghai 9:27, and gives estimated delivery of tommorrow the 24th by 4:30pm. Not sure it will arrive then given that it doesn't even show it in AK yet.
I thought that most things shipped from HP came before 10:30am. I'm wondering if its because we live in small town, and a good 45 minutes from local fedex center.

yes. looks like we did get about the same specs.
We opted for brightview, we saw this feature in BestBuy and ordered the very next day. just couldn't imagine using it with a regular screen.
I got the b/g as everyone was saying that it will make the laptop life longer since alot of things are going to 802.11g. and wanted bluetooth since my pda uses it and Wifi and this would give us more options for printing/mice etc.
We were able to use a $25 coupon, and then will be using the $100 rebate. so, total will be 1477 after all discounts.
Looks like it might be arriving tomorrow. Unless it gets stuck in customs.

I actually ordered my ZX5000 yesterday and the est ship is the 31st. Im not too worried about when it will get here because as much as i follow the tracking etc, it wont make the package arrive any sooner =P
I configured mine as follows:
P4 3.0HT
XP Home
MR 9600 128mb
512 DDR (1x 512) getting another 512 from newegg at a later date
60gb 5400rpm HDD (played with the 4200's at computer store and was getting impatient with the load times)
15.4" WXGA (highest I ever run my 17" desktop at is 1024x768, any higher and it strains my eyes, didnt get brightview because I didnt like the light leakage that was being reported)
12Cell
DVD/CDRW
802.11b
So I guess its identical to yours pretty much accept my router is 802.11b so i did not get the 802.11g wireless card as I would never use it.
I did not opt for the USB Digital drive bay, which will bug me I guess... just because stupid things like that bug me, knowing theres empty space there that could have been used. The same way that the docking station plug on the side will bug me because I will never use it, and the parallel port.. and the vga port.. and the modem port... haha. The 5 in 1 reader reads SD media so im not sure why they offer that SD USB bay...
Im sure the battery life is going to suck, which wont matter not like I plan to use this anywhere thats not plug accessible and the P4 is excellent for 3DS Max render times.
Total price will be about $1,290. Its $1,390 before the $100 MIR and with my Student discount. I tried to use a coupon for some additional savings but it wouldnt take it, and the support team said most coupons wont work with the APP discount because your already saving so much. So oh well, was only $25. -
Cool, to each their own i guess. Personally I work with a lot of dark color preferances on my computer (black /green scheme) and with the dark color the bottom of the screen bleeds a light color with BrightView. I didnt have any problem looking at the normal screen, however the brightview was a bit more contrasting and sharp, just the color bleed would bug me to all hell. (as I mentioned... little things bug me)
802.11g would be more of a future proof way to go but I dont connect to any other wireless networks then my home network which is B. Bluetooth is cool as well but I dont have any bluetooth devices, and the wireless mouse I was looking at comes with a bluetooth station. More then likely I will use a tailed mouse though, the slight lag on wireless mice drives me nuts.
Too bad I didnt order sooner, college starts this wednesday and I wont have my computer. On the other hand I have been pretty preoccupied with fending off a beard algae bloom in my aquarium though, and thats taking most of my time.
Let us know if you get your computer tomorrow and give us a little first impression and run down! -
Mine says "Regulatory Agency Clearance Delay" at 3:58 this morning. but I still have a estimated delivery date of 24th before 4:30pm.
Called Fedex this morning.. .was told the delay was due to not having some kind of paperwork. They said fedex would be contacting the people who sent it and get the correct papers. and I that I wouldn't be receiving my package today.
Anyone else get this kind of delay? why is it that HP doesn't have the correct paperwork?

I got the zx5180 model through Best Buy on the 18th. They tried to deliver it yesterday, but no one was at the house. I changed the delivery address to a family friend. I go pick it up after work! yay!
-
Yes, the sleeve I bought from Best buy is "Dynex" brand. It has compartment for just laptop, and then a front 1/2 pocket for a/c adapter etc. It has two small handles on top, and double zippers on each compartment. It is specifically made for 15.4" laptops. There was one left at our Best Buy. I had been looking for one for awhile. Seems only 15" or 17" sizes out there.
As for backpacks, there have been posts about this. I'd suggets searching for backpack under the accessories forum.
I'll make sure and take pics, and post them.

Im glad you like the brightview. As far as I can tell the difference between the two is a flat screen compared to a ridged matte surface of regular screens. I dont have any experience using the enhanced screens, though my previous couple laptops had the regular and there was not a problem. I dont know why they dont offer BrightView on WSXGA+ and WUXGA (HP). I would have opted for this as I work indoors (glare is not a problem) but unfortunately the option on the ZX5000 is $75, which is more then I make a month =P I dont forsee a big problem though, even a regular LCD is bright and crisp (at least compared to what im using on my desktop)
I have a question - did you opt for the built in digital drive bay and digital usb drive? and If you didn't did it come with the bay in it, or just a plastic plate over it? If it isnt built in im going to kick myself for not getting that bay.
Edit - Is that a trackball I see? *GASP* I despise those things...

I purchased a great laptop backpack at BestBuy. It is a Samsonite bag. It is a 17" backpack and it holds my zd7000 perfectly. Plenty of other spaces for other items as well. Very heavy duty, well made bag. I think I paid $49 for it. I am sure that Samsonite makes a version for your size laptop.

So i went to best buy yesterday, only to leave the store with a migraine and my POS computer in tow.[}
] When I tried to exchange it, the wench at the customer service counter told me that to get a replacement, I would have to mail it to the Return center in Ohio, and have my dad purchase a new one, thereby nullifying any of the rebates that were offered on this model. I called their coporate offices when i got home, and they werent much of a help either[
!]. So now I'm just going to send it back to HP and have them fix it. They are going to have a FedEx carrier come and pick it up on Tuesday, and I wont see it again for like one or two weeks[V]. I will be enjoying my laptop vicariously through all of you, so let me know how you like it. Hopefully it will come back in the condition it should have been in the first place. I mean, what genius sent out the PC without making sure that the drivers were working?!? It seems like common sense to me that they woudl do quality control like that. Argh

Sorry to hear about your problems with your zx. Ours has been working great, I've gotten a "not responding" when trying to install a game, but that's all. Other games installed fine.
Ran part of a DVD movie last night "Pirates of the Caribbean" and it looks so good, and so much more detail on the laptop, then watching it on a TV.
I'm really loving the brightview and so glad we decided on this option.
Let us know how it goes when you get our laptop back.
HP zx5000 - arrived! - P4 3.0HT, XP Home - 15.4" Widescreen/Brightview WXGA - 128mb ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 - 512MB SDRAM (1x512) - 60GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive - DVD/CD-RW Drive - 54g Integ Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN & Bluetooth - 12 Cell Battery = $1477 -
Well my ZX is in its final location, but it wont be delivered 'til Monday. Went from Shanghai > Anchorage > Indianapolis > Grand Rapids > Kalamazoo. Can't wait until I get it, if I had an image host I would post a review with pics. I'll look around.

Gspark 1, yes that's my new trackball explorer mouse. I absolutely love it...so much better then the regular mouses.
As for the Dynex case sleeve I bought (don't buy it) ...I took it back, it did not fit the zx5000, even though it stated it would work with 15.4" screens.
HP zx5000 - arrived! - P4 3.0HT, XP Home - 15.4" Widescreen/Brightview WXGA - 128mb ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 - 512MB SDRAM (1x512) - 60GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive - DVD/CD-RW Drive - 54g Integ Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN & Bluetooth - 12 Cell Battery = $1477 -
I am using the same trackball with my zd7260. It is very handy for everything except games. Works great to sit on the couch beside me so that I can use the laptop on the couch without having to use the touchpad. The only problem is that whenever my wife wiggles a bit beside me, she clicks the back button on the trackball
Travis -
We use the trackball for games all the time. I love that I can place it on my leg etc, without having to use a mousepad etc.

i got my laptop back and tuesday and I LOVE this machine. granted, the battery life is crap, but I keep it plugged in. once I transfer all of my files over from my old dell, i'll be in psuedo geek heaven[
