my dv4t came with a fujitsu 250gb hard drive and it runs pretty warm most of the time. Worst of all it doesn't even have any temp sensors in the drive. my palm rest on the left also gets pretty warm. i can live with it but in the future if i decide to upgrade the hard drive, what brand should i buy that will emit the least heat. is western digital the best?

I can’t say which brand is the best, all have their share of problems.

I have four WD HD’s, two 3.5” 250GB PATA, one 2.5” 250GB SATA, and one 2.5” 320GB SATA external. The two 3.5” I have had running daily for three years and the two 2.5” for about 6 months. All the drives only get moderately warm, within specs, and none have any of the clicking noises I hear about with some other brands of HD’s. As a plus, all of my drives are almost inaudible while running.

I have been exteremly pleased with my WD drives (I hope I haven’t sealed my fate by saying so).

I don’t have any personal experience with the newer Seagate, Hitachi, or Fujitsu drives so hopefully someone else can chime in with their experience.

I only had Toshiba and Hitachi notebook hard drives, so I can't say anything...
But, it seems like many people like Segate, Western Digital, or Hitachi hard drives.

I have the same problem. I'm trying to get used to it, but I searched this forum to find whether this is just me or others. I found that many people have the same problem with their HP notebooks. Of course, I found some exceptions, people who claim their hard drives run relatively cool (about 40 degrees Celsius). It is not clear whether this is HP's design flaw, hard drive's problem, or others.

But, some in this forum said that if your hard drive runs warm or hot in your notebook, it is unlikely that even the least heat-emitting hard drive will run cool in your notebook.
