I just purchased a new dv9220us laptop and I am having problems with the internal webcam. It works sometimes, but after I close either yahoo messenger, windows live messenger, paltalk and even sometimes quickplay it loses the webcam. I get a message saying it can't find a usb webcam with any of these 4 programs. I have to reinstall the webcam drivers to get the cam to work again. When I reinstall the drivers , I get different drivers showing in the device manager. Sometimes I get usb2 camera, usb camera or hp pavilion webcam under imaging devices.
Does anyone know of any fix to get the cam to work properly?
I contacted HP, and they told me to restore the entire computer using their backup, but I don't want to do that and lose everything I installed. The cam didn't work properly since day 1, so I don't see how that will help.

Do you know anyone that has gotten the webcam to work correctly everytime without giving you the can't find webcam error?

The web cam seems to be a problem across the range of notebooks where it is fitted. The problems seem somewhat random in Vista where some applications work on some models and not on others.
I've raised the problem with HP on my DV2166, they admit to an issue but could not offer an immediate solution saying it was under investigation.
It's really beyond understanding how a simple USB based web cam that worked OK in XP can fail to work properly in a supposedly more advanced operating system!!
I am waiting the response from HP with interest. -
The funny thing is that all 4 applications work sometimes. It seems like when I close down the application, it sometimes screws up the webcam so that when I open up an application again, I get an error that the webcam isn't available. My creative web cam that I plug into the usb port always works, maybe because it is always on and never shuts off unlike the hp internal webcam.

ya man, i have a similar problem with my webcam. I have the dv6253cl and when i figured out how to access it, i was stooked. My problem with is when i record something, such as 10 minutes, it plays back as if it is 4 minutes long. The video plays faster, and the audio is normal. I brought this problem up 3 time to the online support and talked to 3 different people. Here is what they made me do:
1) download muvee autoproducer
2) re-install the drivers
3) use restore manager- advance option, then find webcam and reinstall it from there.
NOTHING WORKED!!!!!!
then i called the phone # and after 1 hour on hold, i got someone to talk to. i gave them my situation, and they "forwarded" (put me on hold again) to technical support. When i spoke to someone in tech support, he suggested that i use system restore.
Again the help proved to be useless and im stuck with a camera that records, then plays back faster. In ever program i use, it plays back fast, it looks really retarded. -
I bought my laptop with Vista pre-installed, so im not sure if it is the OS, because i heard that people with XP arent having many problems with the webcam.
