i was about to purchase the 8510p and i was at best buy just checking out some of the laps that they had and i saw the 6510b which looks almost like the 8510p except with the 14 inch display. to me it look unattractive and almost cheap. i dont like the accents and maybe if it was black it would look better. maybe i just dont like the looks of business laptops.

    basically...

does the 8510p look just like the 6510b? also what do you think of the laptops "looks"

    thanks guys

The two laptops looks basically the same. The 6510b is just a different size. I think they look smexy. In terms of looks, I definitely favor it over Vostros, Lenovos, and Asus laptops (though I do like the look of some Asus laptops).

I am actually worried about this same thing. It looks great on the site in the small picture, but when you see it in the bigger one from above, the gray accent are kind of fugly. I do like the button design along the top of the keyboard, though.

I got the 8510w. Wasn't convinced by the photos at all but loved the specs. When i got it, it looked absolutely class!

LOL, people tend to either love or hate the design of the HP business-line for some reason, so it's up to you.

And the HP 6510b is a cheap notebook, the design is the same though.

Well, I won't lie, I never was impressed by the design of "business" notebooks from companies like IBM, HP, or Dell. In fact, for the longest time (er....1.5 years or so) I was looking at buying an Asus (which used to look amazing back then...now they fit in the above average category) mainly because of the appearance. Similar spec'd machines were out there for way cheaper but I was willing to pay the premium (about $400) for the looks.

Anyway, point being, I bought the 8510p because of the specs, and to be honest I was pleasantly surprised by the looks of the notebook when I opened it. Its not an eye-grabber, but at the same time it doesn't induce vomiting (Acer Aspire Gemstone comes to mind).

Don't avoid an Acer because of its looks, avoid it because it's a bad laptop.

    Not yet. :p

Still trying to decide whether the 8510w is worth the extra money. I'm planning on building a gaming desktop early 2008 so I might just get the 8510p because it's cheaper yet still performs very close to the 8510w. :)
