    is it worth 1,000$? can i get better?

    Woudn't the new DV6 be better? That's the old one. The new one has switchable graphics and a Radeon 5650.

    If you are in the US, click into salescircular.com or any of the other tech shopping sites like tech bargains. Look up your state and then the laptop section. That will give you an idea of what's available locally.

    Yeah, it seems pretty good, though as said above spending a little extra on the newer, better model would benefit you for the future.
