I ordered a V6000T today with a 60g SATA 54000 rpm SATA drive. Not here yet.
I want to buy another drive just like it, (or a faster drive) and just swap it out completely so I can try to install XP instead, saving my original drive with Vista on it.
Can anyone tell me WHAT drive they use, or at least the real specs on it so I can get one similar?

It's a SATA 2.5" notebook drive, and made by either Seagate or Fujitsu.
-
Any idea of exact drive model number so I can look up specs and be sure what I get is as good? I havn't gotten mine yet, or i'd just pop it open..
Regualr SATA, *NOT* SATA 2 right? -
if u ad urs u dont have to pop it open, just down Lavalys Everest and it should give u the make and model of your drive. Noone can really tell u with certainty what drive you have as it would depend on what drives HP had/used when making your laptop.

I'd love to order a drive now so that I have it here already when my machine arrives.. Anyone with a machine that can tell me what one thiers uses, so I get at least as good a drive?
SATA not SATAII right?
this one?

Dont worry about SATAI/II, they are backwards compatible and most mobile HDD's are SATA I. HP use different suppliers and isnt limited to a particular brand. Seagate, Hitachi, Western digital are considered to be the best in terms of performance. Fujitsus are quiter and run cooler. The one you have selected shouldnt any issues with running on the v6000t. Just remember to replace the adaptor from the old drive to the new one when you are upgrading otherwise it wont be connected to the system. -
Perfromance may be an issue as this will be a music PC only, so am looking for something fast or at least not slow..
-
music PC only? what exactly do u mean? all it will do is play music? i doubt the drive speed will much of an issue here then, any 5400rpm drive will do regardless of brand, and same goes if u get something slower.
-
no, for recording and playing multi tracks of music, as in a portable studio.
It will often need to stream 6 tracks of audio, plus do other things. -
guess it will all depend on the size of those tracks
-
Size of the tracks? All 16 bit audio is the same size on each track. Its just that there are multiple tracks simultaneously being read.
what drive is in a DV6000?
