i'm pretty sure it's in quickplay but have no idea where to access it.

i'm not a computer person, but i think you can quickly find the HP software by going to Start -> search 'Webcam' and look for HP MediaSmart Webcam
-
Look in the control panel > Device Manager > imaging, there is an entry for the webcam. Not too sure it's what you're looking for tho.

Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
Just type webcam into the "search programs and files box" , bottom left corner of screen, then right click the result and make shortcup or pin to takbar or whatever

when i search "webcam" on my computer it brings up "HP webcam" with a couple test videos i did in the beginning of the year but i just don't remember how i made them. as i said i really believe i had to access quickplay to record videos but i just don't see a "webcam" option anymore. i seem to remember updating the quickplay software sometime earlier in the year when it prompted me to.

I'm not sure how different Quickplay is from Mediasmart (if they are), but webcam shows up under the Video category. However, after I updated my Mediasmart software, the webcam option isn't showing inside "Videos" anymore, and I had to launch it separately as how the other people are saying here, which is by clicking on Start and then typing the word "webcam" on the start search box so that it'll show up on my program list. For Mediasmart, it will also show up on Start > All Programs > HP > HP Mediasmart > HP Mediasmart Webcam.
For Mediasmart, my problem of not being able to launch the webcam inside the program was resolved by an update for the Mediasmart Smartmenu (the menu that shows up when the Mediasmart button is pressed on my notebook). The webcam is now a separate category and is outside of Videos. -
if i possibly uninstalled or disabled it, is there an easy reinstall?

It should be available for download on the HP support/driver page.
where is the webcam on a dv7?
