    hi...
I have an HP DV pavillion DV9620us
    CPU: 1.9 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-58
    Memory 2048 MB DDR2 (2 Dimm)
Video Graphics NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M (UMA)
    Display 17.0" WXGA+ High-Definition BrightView Widescreen (1440 x 900)
I use this laptop mainly for entertainment ( Web surfing, Chat (camera, IM), some video editing...etc)
I'm planning to buy a more powerful HP laptop, and I'm confused between HP Pavillion Dv7t, and HP pavillion DV7z...
    which one do you suggest?
I mean shall I stick to AMD, or intel?
and is an Intel Centrion core 2 duo T9300 (2.5 HZ) is faster than AMD Turion 64X2 dual core mobile technology 1.9 GHZ?

    thanks

For video editing, you might be better off with an Intel based machine. The Intel Core 2 Duo processors outperform the Turion X64's by far.

As Jetstar says, go intel, unless you get the bottom of the barrel intel cpu it will out perform the Turion with ease. You may want to also consider a better than standard graphics card like maybe a 9600M GT or something along those lines (not sure what HP offers in the dv7).

    Thanks Jestar,
So you suggest Dv7t over dv7z?
Some friends say an AMD based laptop is faster than an Intel one? so i'm just confused...

The dv7t is the one you want. I find there to be nothing wrong with the dv7z though, infact the benchmarks for the tx2z on this site showed it's 2.4 GHz AMD dual core smoking Intel Core 2 Duo T7500's in wPrime tests. You won't go wrong either way.

The Intel machine will have better graphic options, like Big Mike said the 9600 GT is a good card while the ATI 3450 (both are the highest options avalible in the dv7's) is not such a great card.

to make it easier: dv7t Intel with Nvidia.

The Go7150 GPU in your configuration will not be great for video editing. If you are doing alot a 8600 9400 9600 9700 or 9800 would be my top choices.

But the 8600 is more than enough.

Yeah that's another thing, if you're buying a base model the AMDs frequently have the atrocious 7150GO (such as the one you posted), even Intel's X4500MHD base integrated graphics are way better. X4500's image quality out of the box wasn't impressive, at least not on my G50, but with some tweaks its pretty good and it's like 50% faster than the 7150.

The Radeon 3200 integrated GPU that the baseline dv7z's come with is far superior to anything Intel has and it burns much less power than NVIDIA chipsets. The Radeon 3450, while not as fast as the GeForce 9600 (HP refuses to offer the more appropriate Radeon 3650), runs quite a bit cooler. The Radeon 3200 can play Blu-ray video. I'd step up to the 3450 just because you also get gigabit Ethernet that way (different motherboard).

Clock to clock Intel is faster. The Phenom II (AMD 45nm chips) and its derivatives fix that but it'll be a while before they hit notebooks.
