HP santa rosa machines are notebooks with X5XX so the the 6500,9500,2500 are SR machines.

Fill out the FAQ(or repost it) so that we can help you better aswell as configurations you plan to get for each model.

dont listen to hambone, that remark is out of ignorance rather than anything else.

new hp models will be dv2(6, 9)500t

any laptop MAY give u problems, it all depends on what you want out of it so i suggest u go to the first section of the forum and fill the FAQ to get suggestions

Stick with HP. Sony's quality has faltered. Toshiba's speakers are weak and tinny sounding. All other makes it's difficult to get a battery off the rack, have to order them thru the company or eBay. HP are common now and most computer stores have the accessories.

    dont listen to that guy.

personally HP is great. i have bought 3 notebooks so far from HP (not all for me though :D ) and none of them have had any problems to this day. you may hear some problems with hp notebooks, but you have to understand that every company has some bad lemons and there are some on these forums for help. obviously you would probably not be here if you did not have a problem with your notebook so thats why there are alot of people that have some kind of defect with their notebook. but seriously HP has some Great Notebooks :D

Well, the Dell 1520 is a bit bigger and heavier than the dv6500t, so that may not be so great for college. Also, the dv6500t looks better :D

There aren't many laptops I know of that have SXGA resolution (may be just me not knowing). Most laptops are WXGA+ or WSXGA+.

What games you play does matter, as different graphic cards handle games differently. Depending on if the game(s) you play are graphic intensive or not, you may need either a high-end graphic card or you may just need a graphic accelerator (lol :D).

i dont know about that. my cousin has that notebook and the paint started to chip around the touch pad. and the touch pad itself feels kind of cheap.
