    i want to get a laptop for college. i have two laptops in mind.

    one is a dell 6400 with the following :(from dell.ca)

    For the money I'd get the HP, even considering that you'll want to upgrade it to 2GB (I recommend two 1GB Crucial DDR2-667 SODIMMs, should be under $100US). Plus I like HP better than Dell. That Dell configuration would be a little faster but I believe it has a 32-bit-only CPU.

    I generally like HP over Dell but in this case I would choose the Dell because of the Intel CPU. Can't you get the HP configured with the Intel dual core?

    umm for a first laptop i would go for a dell it's the best bang for your money for an ok computer.. as for my 2nd computer i wanted to spend a little more and better quailty and got a 2500t just now but for some reason everyone always told me all over the i-net dont' get dell avoid dell and dell is hell ionno my inspiron 6000 didn't have big problems but i did hate the cheap gray paint that wears of in a couple of months which makes your laptop look old and crappy.
