You would get increased battery life with a smaller screen . HP should also come out with a 7200rpm hard drive. The new dv9000 does not have a 7200rpm hard drive.

They make 12." business laptops. I guess they think the normal consumer wouldn't like something so small. And you have to remember, smaller = smaller battery.

Actually I think it's 4-8 cell batteries. They do make it as stated above. It's just not a mass market thing. Look at the forums and see how many people have a 12" laptop. Not many.
The market is predom. 14-15" laptops. -
built it and they will come, look at the dell xps m1210. I had my eye on it since it came out and finally got one. Im not the business customer that needs an ultraportable, but I am soeont that wants a small computer with 15.4+ laptop power. I wold be interested if I couldnt have gotten the 9 cell battery, 256 dedicated vid card, 7200 rpm drive, 667 memory, etc in a 12" laptop.
I dont think many are made, because its not "easy" nor "cheap" to build a powerful 12". -
I like the dell XPS 1210 and am waiting for costco to have one with the 7200hd and the 9 cell battery (I do not think dell makes a notebook with a 12 cell) battery. I love there return policy.

If you're considering a 12" notebook with 1280x720 resolution, I'd recommend spending some quality time with one before purchasing. I personally find 12" to be just a tad bit too small for comfort. I think a 14" WXGA screen is the perfect in-between size. It's still lightweight and very portable, and you won't suffer from eye strain.
why doesn't HP make a 12.1 laptop
