Just a guess, the 250 gig drives are less common and perhaps they only had a Hitachi and a WDC on hand, so that's what they used. They may have had one drive available and had to order the second and they went with a drive with a cheaper price. As long as they provide you drives that match the specs they promised, most manufacturers will just install what is readily available unless you specifically request a particular brand.

The same principle still applies. As long as the drives are the size and speed advertised, they'll install them. It's rare that you see a manufacturer actually list the brand of drive you're going to get because they normally don't know what they'll pick. It's whatever is in stock and readily available to the tech assembling the laptop, either at the factory or at the HP store. You might have gotten their last Hitachi 250 gig drive and the first of their WDC stock, or the tech might have just pulled the first two 250 gig drives he saw on the parts rack disregarding the brands.

what i notice is that the C:/ is a IDE drive and D:/ is SATA. I think all the D:/ are Western Digital HDD. my C:/ is a Fujitsu.

or Western Digital sells SATA HDD in bulk the cheapest than anyone and HP orders the cheapest IDE drives in bulk that month.
