Could be the famous marble dropping sound from the hdd.

it sounds like a loud "tick" and it is a common sound from hard disk drives. No need to worry about it.

I had a high pitched noise like a constant squeal "EeeEEEeEEEE" coming from my laptop's screen inverter board. Apart from the screen inverter I doubt anything in the screen is capable of making a noise.

Which model do you have? And notice when it makes that sound, does your quicktouch mute button go out? If that's the case, let me know, cause I had the same problem right after I reformatted my hdd, and the only way i could fix it is to reinstall the IDT driver.

The speakers make a popping noise when power saving is incorrectly managed. The IDT audio driver should stop that from happening once installed. However there can still be issues with the power saving tech therefore I disable both power saving and external amp shutdown in the IDT control panel.

if it maybe from the quick touch buttons can u tell me where i can download another driver for quick lunch buttons.

IDT is the sound driver. To stop speaker popping noise go into the IDT control panel, click preferences, general, and disable both power management and amp shutdown.

to install quicktouch software go to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us&submit=Go »
    and install "HP QuickTouch Software"

IDT control panel is in the lower right tray. Do you have any audio?

dv2690ee do not use IDT sound chip, its Conexant HD-Audio SmartAudio 221 Driver.

Install drivers from your support page here

It will fix the mute light problem, but I'm not sure about annoying sound problem.
