I know that they are not currently available and i searched the net for info. I know people might not be exactly sure about this but i was wondering what the general trend is because i'm not that familiar with this stuff. Should i wait to see if the GT model video cards will come to the HP notebooks or should i just settle for the NVIDIA 8600M GS in my future 9500t. If i have to keep the GS, do you think i can safely overclock to the GT performance level.

It does not look you will find 8600 GT in dv9500. HP has strong policy regarding gaming laptops - it's their Voodoo Branch. Sad, but you can't do anything about it.

Yeah, unfortunate but if you want some more serious gaming then you're going to have to turn to someone besides HP. Their entry level and multimedia PCs are great though.

Closest thing you'll get to a 8600GT is a 570m which is in the 8510w.

Which really sucks because the new Toshiba notebooks over the 8700GT, though at a significantly higher price point.

The lackluster video card is the only thing holding me back from buying this notebook (that and my company screwed up my payroll, so I got a paper check instead of direct deposit!)

The GS will never reach GT performance levels! In fact the GS in the dv9500t is deliberately underclocked probably due to heat issues or cheaper RAM. The GS feels more like a 8400mGS overclocked than a 8600mGT underclocked. While it's a good card, it's just ruined by the fact that so many other laptops have better cards whereby back in the go7600 days, only a handful had the go7600GT.

Personally I would get the dell, toshiba or even asus and their prices aren't so bad compared to this and for what you get.....better gaming!

Or, if you really want some gaming oomph without paying for brand-itis, try one of the Sager/Clevo systems - you'll get the same system sold by Voodoo (but without the dopey logos or paintjobs) at a fraction of the price.

Have you looked at this notebook?

    Fujitsu N6460

IT seems like a direct competitor to the dv9500t with a better video card. And its customizable.

Edit: Doesn't come with HDMI out, Mic, bluetooth, or webcam
