hey guys i got a compaq c702 laptop runnin on a celeron processor.
i want to dual boot it with windows vista.
but i cant install xp on it........
ok i know the new hp laptops cant disable SATA via bios. BUT MY LAPTOP CAN DISABLE SATA.
i pop in my xpsp2 cd, choose partition and start installation, after copying files it asks for a reboot and then nothing happens!
i either get an " error loading operating system" msg or just a black screen with some sorta red and white dot on it.... and its frozen.
whats the problem here? n how to get past this, why is slipstreaming SATA drivers needed if i can disable SATA and the xp disk reads the hard disk too.
PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME![]()
ive tried everything with no luck .

I believe you have to load XP first before Vista for dual booting.
-
nah i dont think its that.
ive tried that too.... xp never reaches installation stage. after copying files, it just wont load up the os.... thats the case with SATA DISABLED.
when SATA is enabled, xp wont detect the hdd.
ive tried windows xp, windows xp with sp2 slipstreamed and windows xpsp2 which comes outa the box.
what could be wrong? -
Have you tried slipstreaming the motherboard drivers onto the XP CD? I have one of the newer HP's as you put it and I added 3 things to my XP CD - SP2, SATA drivers, and my motherboard drivers. It sounds like XP is not recognizing your hardware and is getting hung up. Enable SATA and create the XP cd the way you are supposed to and you shouldnt have problems. Try and take shortcuts and you'll have nothing but problems.
Slipstreaming is very easy and there is no reason not to do it right. You can find drivers for your laptop on HP's website so go download them and slipstream them with SP2 and your Sata drivers then try again.
windows XP just WONT install. PLS HELP!!!
