    Hi,

has anyone tried the new version of windows 8 on a Pavilion dv6 or dv7 ? Microsoft released a windows developer preview very recently.

Although it was more intended for a tablet than a laptop I'm pretty impressed with the new metro capability.

The only down fall is that the HP drivers don't seem to work with the latest version. When I boot up I have to go to device manager right click on Intel(R) HD Graphics Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.2) - disable - then right click again and enable to get the full brightness (other wise its in a dull mode)

I seem to have lost Beats audio, one of the main reasons why I bought the Pavilion and one of the reasons why I love this machine.

Does anyone know how to fix these two problems ? How to fix the graphics and get back beats audio ( I tried some of the drivers on the hp website but no luck) ?

Also, how do you delete the preview and go back to Windows 7 when the beta is up ? I didn't get any disks with the HP Laptop but make regular back ups.

Recovery discs are not included anymore. Instead there's a recovery partition on the HDD you can use to set up the operating system again with F11 during boot up or burn the files to a CD/DVD with HP recovery manager. I hope you haven't deleted the recovery partition when you installed Windows 8.

    no, I deleted nothing.

I see it there as a D:\ drive (called recovery in explorer) with only 1.79GB free of 14GB so I hope that's the rest of the Windows 7.

Is there some way I can find out that the developer preview didn't install on my recovery ? i.e F 11 will point out as much ?

Apart from the graphics having to be disabled and then enabled and the beats audio there are no reasons to go back to Windows 7at the moment. I wish their hp drivers would work.

    Hi,

I have tried the new version of Windows and I would like to go back to Windows 7. Does anyone know how can I uninstall the Windows Developer Preview ? Im making backups of my data on my external hard disk but I dont know where I can run the windows 7 installation. My DV6 did not come with any DVDs.

I have got a directory on my C: with windows.old on it and its pretty big (49gb approx). Someone has posted instructions on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933168 but I do not have a disk to insert in order to complete the steps.

hi Imanlo ! Thank you so much for the help !! It worked like a breeze. I was looking on forums for ages and there was nothing but I told you so posts. Thankfully F11 did the trick. I have all my back ups ok. Thanks dude !!

Windows 8 looks great but Im not really pushed on the whole metro thing which looks like a windows phone. Windows 7 is really well put together.
