I have a compaq and I need to wipe the system completely out and start fresh. I don't want to use a system recovery disk. I thought during boot up I pushed F10 or F8 to get to the DOS screen. Please help.

you might try pushing F8 to get a selective startup of WindowsXP. I think there was a Prompt option there

If you insert an XP disk and doot from CD, you can do a clean install that way. Not sure if that's what you're looking to do though.
